I landed on Doug T's blog, a Mozilla Minimo developer, while working on the 2007 Mobile Monday Austin calendar planning. At Doug's blog I read his entry The new “walled garden”, and I liked his following quote:

“The new walled garden is not the content you can view on your phone, but rather the applications that you can install on your phone.”

Here are some thoughts on this topic and the Apple phone:

  • The platform itself as a walled-garden, and what applications can be installed and executed
  • Total control for the purpose of guaranteeing execution behavior
  • Total control for the purpose of guaranteeing mobile user experience
  • Closed systems, integrated platform vs. development and extensible platform
