This SXSW 2018 I want to pay tribute to Carlo Longino (@caaarlo): Austinite, mobile pioneer, visionary and supporter, Mobile Monday Austin co-organizer, who passed away last October 2017. He was only 39 years old.

Carlo

At the time I was working in Puerto Rico, a bit disconnected. When I read the sad news in my Twitter feet, I was on a plane at 30K feet. I teared up with sadness and started remembering the good old early days of mobile and of MoMo Austin. It was also a reminder of how short life can be. Don’t wait, make it happen; it’s never too late.

Carlo was my partner co-organizer of the Austin chapter of Mobile Monday for close to 10 years. It was awesome. Our events were great, really great. We brought in awesome speakers, we had free food and drinks, and hundreds and hundreds of attendees came to join us. It was a lot of work, and a lot of fun. And our events during SXSW were, how can I say it, really kick ass events at Fogo. I’m proud to say that together and with the support of many including David Gill, Bart Bohn, Erin Defosse and the UT Austin Technology Incubator, and of course, all of our sponsors, we helped establish the Austin tech mobile community for many years 2003-2014.

A few years ago we decided to stop MoMo Austin, as we focused on personal and professional matters. Our last MoMo Austin event was at SXSW 2014.

Now in 2018, 4 years later, our Nordic friends, with Peter Gréen (@pvgreen) at the lead, are bringing back Mobile Monday Austin at SXSW; click on the link to register and to pitch your startup. Thank you guys.

Last time Austin & SXSW hosted a MoMo™ event was in 2014 – so it’s abt time to do it again. This time it’s the Nordic Edition. Also see what else us Nordics are up to from our Facebook page @NordiclighthouseSXSW. MobileMonday™ was created in Finland in 2000 and the Nordics are bringing it back to Austin in 2018! MobileMonday™ (MoMo) is the premiere community for the Mobile and Connected Industry spanning 140+ locations worldwide. Here’s the preliminary schedule for that Monday 12th. We are hosted by EU@SXSW House on 6th street.” — Peter Gréen
