Arthur C. Clarke

Arthur Charles Clarke, was born on 16 December 1917. Visionary, author and inventor. Passed away today March 19, 2008 at the age of 90.

What a visionary person he was. He got right so many things; this is back in the 50s and 60s and later. From geostationary communications satellites and relays, to the future of space travel and related technologies, to the future of computers (HAL 9000), and human-computer interactions, and artificial intelligence, and even optical storage.

My favorite science fiction books and films, the Odysseys, predicted the future of space technologies, and space travel, and computing. Those images from 2001: A Space Odyssey, triggered my imagination as a child, and even influenced me into working in the space program, and in computing, and to this date, it has an effect on me. And to this date, every time I see the same images, I am reminded of what is to come…

Sir Arthur C. Clarke was ahead of his time. Rest in Peace, Arthur C. Clarke.
