Jason and his team at Paxmodept have released their Java ME Graphical User Interface Library. Jason writes in his blog:

…most Java ME applications unfortunately look like they have been built by amateurs and it ruins the user experience. It is our belief that user interfaces should be simple yet beautiful and for this reason we have developed a custom low level graphical component library to help beautify Java ME applications.

I downloaded their demo application, and I only have good things to say about their UI Lib which built on top of MIDP's low level Canvas API. The UI Lib components are pictured below:

I tested on a 6680. The application size is 57KB. The navigation itself, and response time are very good. I guess the only questions I've right now are about its licensing terms and cost, and if more UI components are on the way… Also to note is that MIDP3 will have new UI components such as the Tab interface and improved font support, but the difference here is that Paxmodept's UI experience, from Tab to other, is all consistent within itself.

To download the beta version of the UI Lib just point your handset to http://mobile.paxmodept.com

Very neat, and good job Jason and team!
