What the hell… so there is a new Microsoft XP patch (update)… it is about the “Genuine Windows Notification”…

The EULA says “WILL HELP YOU KNOW IF YOU ARE RUNNING A PROPERLY LICENSED…”

Hm… is the intention to let me know, or let Microsoft know?

“INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR SYSTEM (FOR EXAMPLE, YOUR WINDOWS PRODUCT KEY AND IP ADDRESS) WILL BE SENT TO MICROSOFT. MICROSOFT WILL NOT USE THE INFORMATION TO IDENTIFY OR CONTACT YOU.”

This is Big Brother kind of thing in action…

Yes, my Windows XP is authentic…

No, I don't want you to scan my f%#^@*g hard drive, then log my IP address somewhere…

Yes, I declined the terms, and told the update dialog to not ask (bother) me again about this ridiculous update…

…and many people accept these terms without really knowing what is happening underneath…

I guess it is good that at least Microsoft is asking first vs. just applying updates regardless…
