Amazon is entering the books-on-demand-printing business. Interesting… I've been saying it for a while — book publishers must reinvent themselves. The world of publishing is changing fast, and the traditional ways will become irrelevant over time. The Web is full of great content, and combined with search engines, it means trouble to traditional printing. Readers will want to find information, read it online, and at some point, maybe, order a hardcopy. Now Amazon is positioning itself; they have what it takes to change the book publishing market. Google can too, but they are using the wrong approach. To the Amazon folks: I've the perfect business model for you, for the upcoming times of “modern publishing” on the Web; give me a call and we can discuss… ;-)
From the article:
“books-on-demand market will grow from about 20 billion book pages in 2006 to 38 billion book pages in 2009, driven mostly by increasing demand for small-volume, rare, and self-published books…”
