Sprint has decided to raise prices for both sending/receiving SMS messages and data-plans. Texting is now 15 cents per message (up from 10 cents). Sprint also decided to raise the price of data usage to 3 cents per KiloByte (up from 2 cents per KB).

I'm a bit surprised about this, as I was expecting U.S. carriers in general to encourage adoption by lowering prices over time. Or maybe it is about “encouraging” customers to upgrade to full/unlimited messaging and data plans? And I'm surprised about this move because texting is a prime example of taking advantage of “Long Tail” (and long-term) adoption, where the idea is to have many users (who might not send/receive a whole lot of messages per individual), but as a whole do send/receive many, many messages.
