Any mobile technologist has the responsibility of understanding the related intellectual property landscape. This is done to understand how existing intellectual property affects you and your company, in other words, that you are not violating other's intellectual property, and/or to understand what intellectual properly makes sense to license. Another reason is prior-art searches to ensure your intellectual property is new and innovative (note that in addition, it must be non-obvious).

This is why when I read Tom's blog post on Surfkitchen's patent, A new patent war ahead : Surfkitchen on dynamic download?, I got concerned, because patents are getting granted for obvious, already widely used techniques;
in this case Surfkitchen patent is about triggering some dynamic processing in response to an SMS.

I would like to suggest that that you go to Tom's blog, and read more about the Surfkitchen patent… and express your opinion.
