Michael Yuan has a great post on Texas as the best place for software developers… where he summarizes salary data for the top 10 cities in the U.S. After adjusting for cost of living, the first 5 spots are all Texas, with Austin #2.
“On average, software developers in Austin are paid $84,460 a year, ranking #9 in major US cities. Adjusted for cost-of-living, it goes up to $93,844 a year, ranking #2 among US cities. In fact, after adjusted for cost of living, 6 out of the 10 highest paying cities are in Texas”
Yes, the fact that Austin is a very nice small city (still), a great place to raise the family, great university and schools, great music and food, multi-cultural, people are friendly, there is good talent here, the Central Texas area with its hill is beautiful, Austin is no too far from other major cities, the cost of living here is not too bad, and there is no Texas state income tax, are the reasons why I have resisted hard from moving out of Austin… OK, but July-August is melting hot…
If you are a strong, experienced, passionate developer in the mobile space, both mobile and server (Java, Ruby) who lives in Austin, or are moving to Austin, shoot me an email…
